so the union has a monopoly?

On talent, yeah. TV is one of the hardest mediums to right for because of the tight time restrictions, etc. The last thing producers want to do (usually) is hire inexperienced, unproven writers.

Unions in many/most instances are monopolies, or if one union is not good perhaps a duopoly. Sort of ironic, isn't it.

          "talent"

TV is complete and utter crap. Non-professionals should take a kick at it. They can't possibly generate a worse product.

The South Park guys are scabs, so they keep on writing...

                • South Park sucks. There, I said it. I know everyone thinks it's the greatest show on Earth. And I kind of liked the make love not war episode. But the episode had the opposite effect. It was supposed to lead you away from stupid game such as world of warcraft, and all it did was cause me to play the game to see what all the fuss was about.

Just because it has some "message" doesn't make the show good. I prefer pointless comedy such as Seinfeld. I don't need no stinkin' message. Yes I'm a family guy fan, and their comedy is juvenile and pointless as well. It seems family guy and South Park fans can never get along. They fight all the time on the imdb boards.

I hate to be one of those guys who likes good "graphics", but the animation in South Park is just painful to look at. And their "messages" are stupid and obvious.

I know I'm going to take a lot of heat for not liking South Park, so bring it on. But it's why I've been putting off saying in on these forums for a while.

                  • South Park? Between the horrible audio and bad animation, plus the characters' annoying voices all sounding the same, I never really gave it a second look.

                      • and tv writing isn't that bad. People act like all new shows suck. I think you guys fail to realize the old days had some pretty crappy shows. Wasn't there some old show called my mom the car? or something like that.

Today we have well written shows such as the office, scrubs, frasier, arrested development, etc. 2 are off the air, but are fairly recent. We have some pretty good drama shows as well.

The problem is with the number of networks and channels we have now days, there are a multitude of crappy shows. Everyone and their mother thinks they can write a sitcom.

It's proof that the writing has gotten better and we have getter shows today than ever.

                            • Yeah right. It has always been a medium that never came close to reaching it's potential. Such a waste.

I will agree there has been the ocasional show worth watching over the years but the vast majority of the content is and always has been crap.
