Well Benazir is far worse than him. I blame the Democrat's talk of invading Pakistan for this.

          Well... $&*#.

One can hope he stays in power, or that pro-democracy forces topple him, but the risk of Islamists with nukes . (Might be a good time to dust off the old Stealth Nation Technology.)

Why Afghanistan? They actually seem to be doing some good there despite a few quisling allies in NATO.

the purpose of the afgh invasion was (or should have been) punitive. Not to reconstruct the country. Not to prevent it from being a home to lawlessness. But to kill people as an object lesson for others. That is economy of force.

Isn't that exactly what terrorists thrive in though?

Yes. But it's not efficient to try to control the globe. Better to do TSA and crap like that. And punish those with power who allow their lands to be so used. With assasinations, use of proxies, balance of power encouragement of Iran-Iraq wars and such. And realistically, we are going to have some terrorism and need to live with it. But it's not worth 130,000 troops deployed. That's not economy of force. That's bailing the ocean with a teaspoon.

                              No.

Question for the reader: what are the differences. (note, none of what I'm thinking about has anything to do with morality or sides. It's a definitional point.)

Why would you need troops for that? We could have wiped out every city not in NA hands from the air.
