We know a lot of other people who are in the mandatory and advisory evacuation areas. It looks like this is going to be much worse than the Cedar fire.
Yeah. From what I hear about the SD fire makes the Malibu fire look like a wienie roast.

Good luck for your parents, and if you stumble over that arsonist, please kick him in the groin from me.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

First, I feel for you and your family and hope you all get out of this OK. Reno gets wildfires every year and if a big one ever reached the developed areas, sitting in a bowl-shaped valley ... we're f*cked.

That said (like it really needed to be said, of COURSE we all hope you and yours are safe) your facts here are very wrong. Even your own Wiki link disagrees with you: The Cedar Fire was the largest in Californian history at 280,000 acres. Utah had a fire this summer that topped 360,000 acres. The Yellowstone National Park fire of '88 came just shy of 800,000 acres. The Great Fire (Idaho and Montana) of 1910 topped 3 million acres. The Peshtigo Fire of 1871 exceeded 3.7 million acres (upwards of 1500 died and it also started the same day as the Great Chicago Fire).

I helped my dad load his car and then he left for his girlfriend's house in the El Cajun area. I told him I'd do my best to watch over the family house during the evacuation though I live around 3 miles away and the police currently aren't letting any cars in to Scripps Ranch. Luckily, this is my home ground and I know back ways in which the police are not watching.

My own house is in the Mira Mesa area which is west of Interstate 15 and is not subject to the mandatory evacuation order though my old high school has been turned into an evacuation center for people ordered out of their homes and who have no where else to go.

My ex-girlfriend has arrived at my house and she has literally nothing but the clothes on her back and her car. She went to work this morning hearing about the fire but knowing it was 15+ miles away then at 2:30 her neighbor called saying their neighborhood was on fire so she went home to check on her house only the cops wouldn't let her in and later she was told her house had burned down. The Police & Fire departments won't let her in to see what remains of her possessions until the fire has died down so she called me and I am currently making her dinner; I've told her I love her and that she can stay as long as she likes. She literally only has the clothes on her back and her car as everything else was in her home.

The sky is still thick with smoke and ash is every where but it seems to have lightened up a bit and the winds are calmer. I hope this means conditions have changed though the TV continues to have negative news.

OK, I had heard Cedar was the largest fire though maybe it was the largest in California and not the US. Don't have time to look it up. Sorry if I made a mistake.

The TV is still reporting sustained 40 mph winds which are carrying ash & embers over fire breaks causing fires to erupt behind the fire fighters. The whole corridor along the 56 freeway is being evacuated as it fallows a valley and the fire department fears Santa Anna winds will drive the fire in that area. That means a lot of people with very expensive homes are being forced out.

On the up side the Navy and Marine Corp are opening their local faculties to evacuees. I guess sleeping in a Marine barracks has to be better then sleeping in a high school gym.

You don't worry about that, you just focus on getting the f*ck out of its way.

Local news caster Larry Himmel does a report in front of his still burning home in San Diego.

Chief Bill Metcalf, the area fire coodinator for the county, said that fire tankers were unable to take off to attack the flames because of high winds and smoke. Santa Ana winds were driving the flames, and firefighters could do little to stop the fires from spreading.

"The fire will burn until the wind stops or it runs out of fuel," the Metcalf said
