They let conservatives vote, so the mental disability rule is obviously not being enforced.

Hey, that's interesting... idiot originally meant "idiot" the way we use it.

Yeah, they should use the word "******" instead.

I don't think it's a good idea... Florida allows their idiots to vote... or at least try to vote

Did NJ replace these words with more politically correct ones, or did it, as can be inferred from the article, merely remove these restrictions?

An idiot is defined as a impairment which prevents the person from mentally developing beyond the level of the average 4 year old. An insane person has lost touch with reality. I don't really want either of these types of persons voting.

If NJ is now going to let these people vote, then that State is being run by a bunch of insane idiots!

Let em vote. Crazy people... dumb people... it's not like they could be worse for this country than those who vote party lines.

They should at least be coherent enought to be able to sign with an "X."

I don't think any state really attempts to prevent the mentally retarded from voting. Basically if you can fill out a voter registration card and show legal residence you can vote.

I recall one instance when I was returning from a vacation in Florida shortly after the 2000 election. We stopped at a restaurant In South Carolina and sat next to a group from Ohio, a retarded man and his two sisters. The group was talking about the election and who they voted for, then the guy began talking to my son, who was then 5 years old, and my daughter, who was 8. He conversed at about the same level as my son, and talked about the election. He evidently voted the way his sisters told him to, since he wasn't really able to understand the issues, or for that matter the concept of issues. So evidently Ohio doesn't really prohibit retarded people from voting.
"I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!

"Retarded" though covers a large range. IIRC "idiot" is on the lower end of that range.

(Come to think of it, if they have the mentality of four-year-olds or less, they won't be able to vote because they can't read the ballot.)

I could read at 4yo. (I would have probably voted for He-Man though.)
