I originally got a cellphone in college (well, I had one in high school but it was to expensive so I got rid of it) because I got tired of fighting over the phone bill with my 7 other house mates. There were always charges at the end of the month which someone made but who refused to pay for them so I got a cellphone and stopped dealing with them.

Ever since then I've just used my wireless hand set and the only time I have had a land line was when I first signed up for cable internet service and found I got 3 months free of their internet phone service. At the end of the free period I canceled it.

That it does. Plus I like how it converges several other devices into one small package. I no longer wear a watch except at formal occasions, I don't carry an MP3 player any more since my phone has one, and I find I take more pictures since I have a built in camera on my phone (abet a crappy one).

Add in that it functions as an alarm clock even if I'm over at the girlfriends or away on work, that I use it as an organizer for my schedule so I don't have to worry about remembering as much, and that I can use it to find directs in strange cities and you can see why these phones are so damn useful.

My friends would always ask me t get one so they could reach me (and vice versa) if we had an appointment and the train would have delays or something other happened that would change the appointment.

So I would at some time get me a cellphone with prepaid card.

But it is one of the least used electronic devices @home.

Sometimes I carry it with me and sometimes it would even get used as intended, to send/receive SMS regardng changesin appointments, but most of the time it stays unused.

Cell phones are simply extraordinarily convenient. A cell phone was especially useful when I had a girlfriend who lived two hundred miles away. A cell phone allows me to make calls in privacy, without having to seek out a phone in a particular building, and without disturbing others while making a call. Text messaging allows me to keep in contact with friends without stopping whatever it is I'm doing.

I'm in my car a lot, and I travel on roads where if I have car problems, it's a long walk to the nearest phone.

After a long walk... I got a cell phone

I only have one because I get the hand me downs from my wife and daughter when they upgrade their phones.
I keep it in my briefcase turned off in case of emergencies. I'm the only manager in our company that doesn't have a blackberry and proud of it. My life outside of my job is my life, not theirs. I did the 24/7 thingie for over a decade before cell phones were common. I don't ever want to do that again.

I got a phone because my job involves being on call. God knows I would never pay money to talk.

I guess I would have a work phone and a personal phone, turn the work phone off outside work and never give the personal number to anyone I worked with (unless they were a trustworthy drinking buddy...).
