I just recently started looking for a job after my summer of Dis. .
It's rare to see the sunday paper so thin in the job classified. The job market is real tight where I live (unless you want to work in retail ). Last time I looked, there were many more jobs available.
I'm under the impression it's like this accross the country. Unemployment is real low. Hand it to the republicans here, even if they are ****heads. The economy is strong right now.
That's good advice. Even one of those crap bookstore jobs you mentioned, even if it doesn't pay the rent. It's much easier to find a job if you have one than if you don't. Plus, the bigger the non-employment gap, the more "damaged goods" you'll become.
Suggestion Two: Join the Navy. They don't get sent to Iraq (much). Specialize in something that's useless on land (e.g. sonar).
don't join the navy unless you go in as a warrant officer or officer.
edit: there are a couple enlisted fields that will be useful after your time is up. One I can think of is aircraft controller. They are still in high demand in the civilian world, it's a bit different in the civilian world, but I don't think the transition is that difficult. Many enlisted ranks the recruiter will claim is useful after you get out, but they really aren't. But sometimes high motivation (and good contacts) can net you good jobs after you get out. I had neither of those

Can't you dress up as a centurion or a pirate or an Eqyptian or some other silly Vegan thing and get tourists to pay you money for the kitschness?
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.
When paying this compliment, don't forget:
(a) that prisons are the fullest they've ever been. Ususally these inmates would be in the unemployment line.
(b) unemployment numbers fail to refect those people who have given up looking.
(c) the salary of the average jobs have fallen, as good-paying manufacturing jobs have been moved out of the country and we're left with low-page jobs selling French fries.
we got a new casino opening up in December I think (I figure they will try to beat new years). While I'm not interested in a casino job, what it does is shift the job market around and create openings in other places. But I don't want to wait that long. I'm getting bored now.

If you don't want to work in that line of work perhaps you need to move somewhere else?
Besides I am currently looking for another job and it is sllllooooowwww(hand), although I am in a job and can't complain at that level, and I don't mind at all what I am doing.

Okay, I'll try and take 'em from the top. Wasn't expecting this many replies...
DanS: What kind of job are you thinking of? I don't know what kind of work you do. Also, where do you want me to send said resume? I'm not in the D.C. area, but I'm certainly going to move in that general direction...there are no jobs other than "chicken farmer" where I am.
Z: I don't consider bookstore jobs "crap," in fact I was considering one until my parents cautioned me that it wouldn't pay the rent and would look bad in the future (college grad, magna, works in a bookstore?). I'm, ah, not armed forces material. I tend to want to punch people who bark orders at me, plus I'm badly out of shape. "Working on my novel," indeed, but I don't know that counts for much to employers.
Wiglaf: I'm an aspiring writer. I'm looking for a job because it can take years to get published and even then there's poor odds of success. So I want something stable to keep me fed. I'd also like to get married, just as soon as I can support myself. That's my biggest incentive to work; I'm tired of being a bum.
Lori: I've been looking for jobs in copyediting (on the rare occasions they don't demand 2-3 years copyediting experience, familiarity with style X, obscure program Y, etc.), publication, editing, general stuff like that. I've been applying mostly for government jobs...my dad is a former federal employee and skimmed usajobs.gov's series search list for good ones to try. Most of the ones I apply for there are "administrative officer" or "program analyst" or other such titles for miscellaneous office-work. The few replies I've gotten back from them so far have mostly been along the lines of "Sorry, you're qualified but not among the best qualified."
DinoDoc: Minored in philosophy, which I know is useless but the courses were easy and I figured, hey, it couldn't hurt to pick up a minor.

If you are living in Bhutan I suggest moving to the United States, both for the women and the job market. Also, since you're just looking for any reasonable paying job, I got to say, do not get discouraged. I know some people without college education who get administrative jobs rather quickly, and they probably cannot write/think critically/etc half as well as you can.
In the meantime one job that comes to mind immediately is secondary school English teacher. That can be fun, I'd think, as long as you are not deployed to Iraq for ESL courses or something unfortunate like that.
You could do what Boshko did and teach English to furriners.

This is why having some type of bs job in college can go a long way. Such as doing something title ix related and putting that as years of human resources experience (like I plan on doing).
