Stats show that (aside from sex criminals), once someone reaches the age of 55, they are very unlikely to commit another crime.

I say: slap a GPS ankle bracklet on them and release them on probation. No need for us to pay the tens of thousands of dollars it takes each year to keep each of these now-harmless geezers in prison.

You never know what harm these old people can do to innocent citizens, with their wheelchairs and crutches

It's not the old farts of today who'll be giving your problems. It's people like me -- the old folks of tomorrow -- who'll be doing you in.

Cripes. I'm closer to 60 than 40. How in the hell....

It's just a hunch, but I doubt many of the geriatric prisoners are in there for drugs.

Maybe some of them are in for one of the first drug wars the US government fought.

Listen, just start counting the years backwards. You'll be 40 again before you know it.

Well, in less than 20 years from now, anyway..

This is a ****ty deal. People can change. I've never committed a crime, but I know I'm a lot wiser now than I was even 3 years ago. I'd hate to be judged and remembered forever by how I acted when I was 22. I'm only 25 now.

Be it for the greater good or otherwise, it's still a ****ty deal. Don't think that someone who has committed a crime isn't worthy of compassion, and don't think that compassion is a limited resource which must be strictly rationed (by that I mean: "ZOMG care not for the victim?!!". No. Care for Both.)

that's something i haven't thought of. Do prisoners with a life sentence with no possibility of parole get social security checks after age 65?

Why not just turn New Jersey into one massive prison and send 'em all there?
