                  Are there photos from before the attack? I think the head may have fallen apart / been destroyed earlier. When there are byzantine paintings in Anatolia, populace is usually satisfied with destroying the faces of the saints.

                    oh, and Mohammedans is considered offensive, because some believe it implies that muslims worship Muhammad. Me personally, I am not appaled by this term, because it is the same as Manicheans, Nestorians, Eutychians, Lutherans, Calvins, and many more religious group esp. of christian tradition named by their founder. But it'd be better not to use this term.
