    Considering how sober I feel at the moment, I guess that means I wasn't very drunk when I went to sleep

    (oh, and one more thing I forgot to say: The taste at the back of your mouth that you get from some drinks. That blows, too. Still, all in all, the general feeling of relaxation, warmth and comfort beats the downsides if you don't do it too often.)

      The vast majority of negatives from drinking can be negated by drinking water as well as alcohol during the night, and then drinking more water shortly before going to bed. No dehydration = no hangover.
      If you happen to have a spare liver as well...
      I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

          The darkness of the alcohol also has an effect. I'm surprised one of our science geeks hasn't brought this fact up yet.
