  • Secret Nazi building

The USA navy will spend 600.000 dollars to modify the building so it no longer resembles a swastika when seen from above. It was detected by google earth users and the military aithorities have received complaints.

It is located in Coronado (California) and was built in the late 60´s

I think people should have noticed the design in blueprint, at least.

I think we ought to rescue the Swastika from its unfortunate association with the Nazis.

That depends on what the new design looks like.

If they're spending the money just because of the shape... that's stupid.

If they were going to do some changes anyways, then modifying the shape makes sense.

Why would they? That is four seperate L-shaped buildings, not one swastika shaped building.

They knew what it looked like when they built it, but figured "who's gonna see it?"

If not for Google Earth, it would have never been noticed.

No, if I remember the story correctly, aNavy pilot saw it in the 60's and brought it to their attention. They figured no civilians would ever see it, so don't worry about it.

Apparently that base saw various construction from 1920-1970. So it's possible this building predates WWII. Can't find any reference to when it was built so far though.

I can't wait till some fundies find out that there are naked people on Google Earth...

You wouldn't even know about swastikas if not for the nazis.

The building group is a barracks, and it's post-WWII. One article said it was Seabees, another said Navy Seals.

The new alterations will involve landscaping and the addition of solar panels to disguise the shape. And yes, it's specifically to get rid of the swastika view.

Supposedly, they were not built all at once, but with various additions over the years.

Actually, the swastika is one of the most universally adopted symbols in human civilization.
