Eat a bratwurst evil kraut - nothing wrong with SG
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Dr. Daniel Jackson.... after sacrificing his worldly existence to save millions of lives in Kelowna, a country on the planet designated P9Y-4C3. He didn't die, however, so much as he "Ascended" to a higher spiritual plane of noncorporeal existence. Even before this, he had been considered like a deity to the people of Abydos, the planet on which he'd chosen to stay following the first SG mission. Later banished from Ascension, with no memory of the experience, he returned to human form and rejoined SG-1.
is this the equivalent of the "my brother is actually my lost dead mother in another body" soap opera plot?
BSG gets 4 seasons because the show's creator refuses to milk the story and tack on stuff just for the sake of prolonging the show's life. Tell your story and be done with it
SG-1 should have ended after Season 8 anyway. I disliked Season 9 and liked Season 10, but even so, it still should've ended after Season 8, that'd be great in every sense.

If it had ended with Season 8 we wouldn´t have the pleasure of seeing Vala (Claudia Black) in the team, therefore it is definitely good thing that it went on for 2 additional seasons
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve." Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"
SG-1 started out on Showtime (5 seasons), then got picked up by Sci Fi, so that had something to do with it. Also wasn't it one of Sci Fi's top shows, if not #1?

But Atlantis is a bad show. SG-1 was good for a long time but then became repetitious. Atlantis has never been good. I wish they'd been able to keep the original actor that played Weir.
I think Atlantis picked up a lot during the last season. The first two seasons were meh... too much bad writing, too many stories similar to SG-1, some outright horrid character development or lack thereof. Season 3 did have a few stinkers but was, IMO, much more solid overall.
Now that they're getting rid of Weir, Season 4 should be good I just can't help it, but the character really annoyed me on Atlantis.

How exactly did this mediocre show make it to, what, 10 (???) seasons? And nBSG gets only four? B5 - five? Even the various ST shows had less.
Proof that the world is unfair I'd say!
Shows last based on popularity which is not necessarily equal to quality. TV shows can be of poor quality and still be very popular.
SG-1 was far from bring a cinematic masterpiece but it was very popular because it was so entertaining. There was a lot of humor, fun and action.
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"
