"Anyway so far it seems the regime is NOT risking the consequences of a massacre, but is attempting to use tear gas, arrests in the night, etc to quell this without a massacre."

From opposition sources, total dead are under 150. Far lower than in 1988. IF this is the end, the regime achieved it with far less bloodshed than there might have been. Their could of course, be several reasons for them trying to minimize bloodshed.

Meanwhile there is a UN envoy there, while Im not forecasting great success for the envoy, its premature to consider this over.

I've heard that there was indeed a massacre at at least one temple, the crowd outside held at bay with bayonets.

      There's a call for a general strike.

Heard that to. Yesterday there was news about lots of temples being found empty, and nobody knows what happened to the monks. Of course at this stage it's hard to say what's true and what is rumours.
