I would rather see us spend the billions earned by big business to get our asses off this planet. It wouldn't be impossible for us to have colonies on the Moon, Mars, and perhaps some moons of Jupiter and Saturn.

Then the next step would be to build a giant, self-sufficient mothership and the entire Universe could be seeded with semi-intelligent life.

Sadly, we are barely sentient. We certainly don't have mastery over our animal instincts enough to live in confined space capsules for extended periods of time. Maybe the cockroaches will have better luck.
