We were talking about whether HS age kids should get to vote in school board elections. My first thought was that non-parents would complain that parents plus their kids would add to much weight to higher school taxes, but then I remembered the school board here doesnt set school taxes, financing is done by the county council, the school board makes decisions within the budget total the county gives them. So I agreed with POTMs suggestion that HS kids should get to vote for school board. We all assume that the "idiot" kids probably wouldnt vote anyway.
Thinking it over, I suppose parents of primary school kids might think this would add more votes to making high schools a priority.
That kind of thing is a real concern here, where all-day kindergardens are competing for money with goal of a later start time for middle schools (which would mean more money for school bus transportation)
