Oh, I think it's funny, it's just that it was also reckless and stupid.

I concur that its not funny, and if they had been shot, it would be hard to fault the authorities. So get your Naomi Klein books and move it or I'll seriously bash your faces in! - Supercitizen to stupid students

Assassination attempt? Did they carry weapons or use any type of violence? They had a guy dressed in beard, pyjama and a funny hat, like Santa Claus. So get your Naomi Klein books and move it or I'll seriously bash your faces in! - Supercitizen to stupid students

Er, they were stopped and arrested shortly after clearing the cordons, which obviously were not heavily guarded. They were stopped a block away from Bush which is a good distance.Originally posted by Alexander's Horse

I didn't say actual assassination attempt. I said perceived assassination attempt. Using a fake convoy of official VIP cars to run passed security checkpoints could have led to such a misperception.Originally posted by Chemical Ollie

Luckily, Australian cops are not as trigger happy as L.A. cops.

This all reminds me too much of the kind of people who bring violin cases through airport security checks, and then jokingly claim that the case contains a sub-machine gun.
You just don't joke like that. Too creepy and too close to reality.
Thumbs down for this one

Re: Re: APEC security shredded by Comedy TV show prank
Yes, but you have to understand the hype around this 'cordon': this is the 'ring of steel' erected to keep the hordes of unwashed commie protesters someone imagined would descend on Sydney for the week; the barricade to 'keep our leaders safe' in this time of terror, and coinciding with draconian special laws that would have allowed police to imprison excitable protesters without charge or bail for the duration of the APEC summit; in the face of all that, a fake motorcade, with all members carrying fake security passes that quite literally say 'fake!' on them, with one of them dressed as the great satan himself, and they still got through 2 roadblocks! Even Foreign Minister Alexander 'fishnet stockings' Downer found it amusing...Originally posted by Wiglaf
