... that's your problem right there, Asher: You don't *really* understand the mac fanboy psyche (-:.

    • You don't know **** about economics son. You don't create more demand by lowering the price you just sell more. You create demand by advertizing.
      ??

So why don't they just advertise more instead of lower the price? WTF does this even mean?

      • Kid has asserted that demand is unrelated to the price of an item on the free market. This is one for the record books.

                    • I don't know what he'll present in it but I assume it 'll be more than to just show that advertising creates demand.

I think Apple is one of the best, if not the best, in advertising. They're extremely good at it.

But we can't forget that iPhone isnt' entering an empty market. On the contrary, it's entering a very much competed market. And when it enters the competition with subpar product, this is what happens, I don't see how this wouldn't happen, unless the hype carried over for a long time, which even Apple can't produce as of now. But if anyoen could, I think Apple would be the one able to do that, since their marketing is so strong.

I mean people actually believe, a lot of people believe that iPhone is a superior product technology wise. It's quite amazing. But what APple should realize is that the competition is different in other markets such as in EMEA and Asia. And they won't become a true player if they try to compete only in the US, because US market is not the pivotal one in mobile phone industry. It's like the iPod, they want to make it a smash hit across the world, if it was only a US phenomenon, it wouldn't have carried that far. They would have gotten nice profits, but not a product that changes the company future.

                      • Kid, dude, your graph makes no sense. They're selling more mobile phones in every region every single month. THis trend has been long now, people buy more phones, more people are able to buy phones and people change their phones faster.

That graph shows the situation of Apple when compared to the competition and other products that are currently being sold by competitors.

But it's not a generalization of the market, especially the mobile phone market.

Why do you think producers of cell phones cut their prices so much? If the market was perfectly competitive they wouldn't have to change their prices.

                          • The very fact that they can sell more at a lower price means that the market is not perfectly competitive.

You said yourself that Apple was price gouging. That's impossible in a competitive market.
