    Some would argue that Englands greatest Monarchs were Queens. Elizabeth 1 and Victoria were very monarchs when England was powerful... and the nation became stronger in their reigns.

                  IIRC, at one point, Maude captured Stephen and marched triumphantly into London in order to be crowned, but Stephen's wife led a rebellion that drove back her out of town.
