Metal drums are free if you are a good alert and resourceful, or know where to look.

        BFD.
Yachts are free, if you're alert, resourceful, know where to look and if there's no one around to see you take it.

I learned Dolores's bro Bonifacio, who fishes off the shore now, wants a boat to do it proper. So I'm thinking of getting some cat plans and we can build something modern for him. Trouble is, everyone wants $ for cat plans! Sometimes more $ just for the plans than one of their primitive bunkas would cost to build. With a small cat he could sail out to where the big fish are quickly.

It's got me a tad bummed.

              How big of a cat?

A million years ago, my brother & wife no. 1 had a small cat -- basicially a couple of pointy pontoons with a metal framework and canvas stretched out to serve as the deck.

My guess is that Boni will need something a little bigger. Something with cargospace in one of the hulls so he can put his fish in it.

Is this something you can just eyeball and mimic? Or do you actually need plans? (Not a joke; I'm just asking.)

Check out the DUO, 8m long

We could join up a couple of bunkas and put a deck across, that might work.

$15 for the study plans and $250 for the plans. Ouch! I say its time to visit the public library.

Really? Think they would have cat plans?

Depending on the library system, they have a wide array of books.

And sometimes you can even ask for them to acquire something (but this usually has to be in writing, and even if they get it, the process takes a long time).

We have less than three weeks and a fairly small library. I think I'll go to this place and ask if they have plans for a simple cat good for poor locals to build just cheap...

Although the L.A. Library is closed today, I just checked on their catelogue.

There's no catamaran construction books per se but the Science and Technology section has maybe a dozen books on amateur boat building.

(Another place to check is Amazon.com. )
