  • Best Buy Customer Service

About 5-6 years ago I bought a digital camera, top of the line type one, cost me a pretty penny. I, out of stupidity, got the store 4-year warranty for an extra $80. I bought the camera 4 days before Thanksgiving so that I could take pics of the upcoming holidays.

2 days later wifey tried putting in the memory card the wrong way and broke a pin in the camera, making it inoperable. I took it back and they told me that I would have to send it back to the manufacturer to have repaired and would take 2-3 months. Thus, I would not have a camera for the holidays.

I informed them that I had purchased the store warranty, and they promptly replaced the camera. Having the camera for the holidays was well worth the $80 bucks.

A year later, about 4 years ago, I bought a DVD home entertainment center with all the speakers, receiver, etc... We moved into our house in San Jose which was undergoing construction and there was lots of dust. About a year or so ago the player stopped working. It was unable to go through a whole movie without skipping or pausing in such a manner that it was impossible to watch the movie. Wifey was going through old receipts and found that we had also bought the store warranty on this item. We took it back last Friday, the tried to fix it, and last night told us that they would replace it.

We went in today and got the most top of the line DVD player available, for free! It is much better than the one is broke, and they even let me keep the speakers of the old player. this new one has wireless speakers, ipod ready, everything! I am stoked.

Anyway, needless to say, we spent the $40 for the 4-year in store warranty.

Let me just say, that Best Buy may cost a little more, and the store warranties may seem like crap, but I love them and will never not buy one. Seeing as 2 out of 3 electronic items I buy seems to break with in 4 years... and I can just upgrade those when they do, for the cost of a little foresight.

    Amen to that my friend.

When I first saw the thread title, I thought, time to come to defend Best Buy, but was very pleased another has had some of my very experiences.

We buy almsot all electronics from here, save a minimal amount from somewhere else.

I have never had a problem, if it needs replacing, ya got the warranty, its a done deal.

    Thanks to Best Buy!!

Too many people shop at Best Buy because of the name. They just subconsciously think they are getting a great deal.

Also, if you paid $80 for the warranty on the home theater, you broke even. A DVD player these days doesn't cost that much.

This is where Best Buy makes money, right? While buying a warranty worked out for Japher, in most cases it's not getting used, so they're just raking it in.

Consumer Reports doesn't recommend getting them. I'll stick with their advice. I've never bought one and never regretted it.

I don't think I'd shop Best Buy for any "major" purchase. I've bought computer games there, the occasional CD or DVD. Maybe my headset. But what I've spent the most on is computer parts, and I've gotten those online.

I am just a little different, I want to look someone in the eyes and them tell and show me support.

To me, any extra cash is well worth the peace of mind.

I am totally satisfied with Best Buy, for over 3 years now since we have had them here in Jacksonville NC

Isn't $80 a significant fraction of the camera purchase price? If I spend $250 on a camera, no way would I spend 30% of it just in case I break it.

Couldnt tell ya, but will say this, If I want something, set up my way and a purchase is say $ 3500.00 and I had to pay say 7-10% for a 3 year warranty then yes it is worth it for me.

I would have to see the product and the warranty to know if I purchased something and a warranty was worth it.

One other thing I like about Best Buy, is the rebates you get for purchasing

Helps off set some of the costs
