  • Why is it burgers at burger joints taste better than burgers I cook at home?

What do they put in or on those things to make them so good? Though I'm not sure I want to know.

Ummm... they make it swim in grease? I don't know. It's like fries too, you need to make it swim first .

Or maybe you have an acquired taste. I like home burgers. I cant make really good ones though, but it's just me. A girl who is my friend makes excellent burgers. Actually she's a great cook, good salads, every food is just pretty damn good. I can't do it like that. Even if I get the spesific instructions, I still fail to make it as good.

Use the 20% fat burger, bbq it over coals, add lots of salt & some pepper. Add cheese and sue yourself.

        1. Better meat
        2. or More fat
        3. Salt
        4. Oil cooked in
        5. Additives (anything from MSG to bbq sauce)
        6. Mental (you think they'll be better)

I can make a burger equivalent to most burger joints, but it takes a decent amount of work. Actually BBQ over coals isn't necessarily the key - burgers to most people taste better fried in oil (probably 70-80% of people by my uninformed guess).

Do you have Fred Meyer stores? Try their 20% angus burger.

Sure, fried in oil...but do that enough and your guts go on strike.

My guess is that you are a lousy cook since you apparently isn't able to make such a simple thing as a burger taste good

I've never tried it but I've been tempted to buy a bag of hickory chips and throw some around the edges of the coals (so they smoke but not burn too fast) just before putting the burgers on.

Try cooking the Burgers by taking some Lipton Onion and Mushroom soup mix (the dry package content) and mix into the hamburger you want to cook.

Perhaps some woschestershire sauce as well.

After cooked maybe put some A1 Steak Sauce on top or maybe some Chipolte sauce.

Cooking sometimes takes time to get a good niche going, but some experimentation will prove worthy in long run.

I also use a frying pan with a raised griddle type surface to keep the burger off the pan floor.

Try draining the fat off with a spoon during cooking.

In addition, keep the burgers covered, this may help as well.

                    Hope this was somewhat helpful

Mix lean beef with fresh chopped onion, seasoned salt. You can even grind your own beef if you really want a good burger. Try to keep the seasonings simple or otherwise you'll overpower the beef.

Melted fried onions on top of very good quality meat, seasoning and fried in oil gets you close.

                            Also very filling.
