    I find it difficult to understand why the Japanese don't make a sweeping apology for these and the other war crimes they committed during WW2. It seems to me that it would ultimately be better to just get it over with.

    The main reason the US didn't pursue the investigation of many of Japan's war crimes was to avoid weakening the fledgling democracy they were nurturing in Japan.

      Wasn´t it that several japanese primi ministers at several times apologized for the war crimes in Manchuku but that the apologies just weren´t enough for the chinese?

        Aren't there a number of people alleging the 'main reason' was the US government's desire/need for the 731 perps' data and expertise?

        I remember reading evidence to that effect years ago but can't be arsed to dig it up again... is anyone more familiar with this aspect of the story?

          Because they doubt the sincerity of these apologies and frankly, I can't blame.
