Its never been. But ultimately it has the seeds of its own self-correction, in the generation of a democratic political dynamic that enables the polity to weigh the benefits of industrialization against other values. The very authoritarian nature of the Chinese system, and the apparent unwillingness of the leadership to open up in significant ways, even as unprecedently fast growth takes place, is what is a gnawing concern, at least to me.

Perhaps the creation of an industrial working class will lead to the predicted dialectical struggle betwen labour and capital which will in turn lead to the inevitable seizure of the means of production by the proletariate.

      Oh wait...

A decade long civil war can only be good for the American manufacturing sector

You do know the joke about when Brezhnev's mom comes to visit him, dont you?

Between 1981-2001, the amount of Chinese living in poverty fell from 53 percent to 8 percent.

                Ok.

So Brezhnev's mom comes to visit him in Moscow. He wants her to know how well her boy has done. He takes her to eat the finest caviar for lunch. He takes her for a ride in his huge limousine, and they go to his sprawling dacha just outside the city.

"Well, Ive done alright for myself"

"Yes, Leonid, I'm very proud. But one thing worries me"

                "What is that, mom?"

"Leonid, what if the Communists take over?"

what happened to the percentage of britons living in poverty between 1763 and 1868, or 1945?

Absolute poverty is less likely to start a revolution, than A. Dramatic inequality B. Frustrated aspirations for a say in the running of society, esp on issues that directly impact peoples own lives.

Which is to say, I think the possibility of a socialist revolution in China cannot be rule out.

In fact I DO walk almost everywhere I go, and when rarely I take the car I push it to save gas. Yeah, that's right. ...and personally I've given more gas to the environment than I've taken from it.

Actually I would defend my position but it's easier just to let you guys post what everyone knows is pure drivel and since you have made my point by making fools of yourselves with yours, move on.
