I personally think it's more about being different than being liberal, as I recall plenty of socialists and commies in the music scene back in the day. These are the people who did not follow Daddy's advice to major in something sensible when they went off to college.
If there's anything sensible to major in at college, chances are it's not a real university subject, and should be removed to a polytechnic.

But by the time one is actually making a career in the arts, fascism is pretty uncool. And it's really IMHO more about being (seeming) cool than anything. It is absolutely no surprise to me that, on balance, the music, drama, and art communities tend toward the liberal side.
Yes, I agree that the Republicans are a front for fascism.

The sad part is that today's jingoistic political milieu seems to have pigeon-holed the liberals onto the Dem side, while the fiscal conservatives and religious all "have to" be GOP. Pretty pathetic. But I digress...
The GOP is now, for all intents and purposes, a religious party. Probably the first major party to be strictly religious in US history IIRC.

I was born in '53. Growing up, my father was a union man, very conservative and traditionally religious. Later, he became a small business owner. But he always voted straight-ticket Democrat.

My mother was a registered nurse, very sympatico, tended strongly toward the left on social issues. But other than anomalies like Kennedy vs. Goldwater, she tended to vote Republican.

You just don't see that crossover anymore.

You should talk. You don't even teach a real subject.

He's apparently donated to the Democrats half as much as he did to the Republicans.

And he's married to a Kennedy isn't he?

You're widely regarded as a dolt, and so your opinion carries no weight.

I don't know. In Vanity Fair he's portrayed himself as being independent. Though I bet he's always voted Republican.
