In my travels I came across this site detailing celebrity political donations:
It makes for pretty interesting reading.
Obviously, donations are heavily slanted towards the democrats, since, as has been long known, most actors/artists etc. lean left or radical.
But there's quite a few Republican celebs on the list. What's striking is that they are almost to a man (or woman) deeply uncool people, B-listers, celebrity chefs and other lamers.
I would have bet on most celebs being democrats. But I would not have bet on virtually all Republican celebs being talentless lame hacks.
That's not to say that being a Democratic donater makes you cool. Barbra Streisand has donated heavily to the democratic party and she is uncool, and Kenny G, who is probably the least cool man on the planet is a Democrat.
But being a Republican seems to ensure that you are deeply uncool. Almost all the gameshow hosts veer Republican, and so does Dr Phil (who is engaged in an eternal battle with Kenny G for worst person in the world). The rest are either horrible old timers like Merv Griffin, or people who are famous for being lame, like Sammy Hagar. It seems that the trend is that the lamer and more talentless you are, the higher your propensity is to be a Republican donor.
Country music stars figure highly in the Republican column, which just confirms how the GOP is a magnet for the wheezing and the tuneless. Like moths to a light, they seem attracted to the Republican party.
Chuck Norris is a notable exception. But he doesn't count, since he is only counted as cool in an ironic fashion (because he is such an irredeemably bad actor and an imbecile to boot).
That leaves Gary Sinise and Robert Duvall. Both are excellent actors with oodles of talent. Duvall is known to be a dick, so that counts him out.
But Sinise is an excellent actor and a cool dude. I always make a point of watching a movie if he is in it, since he's always worth one's time. What's wrong with him? Is he just doing it out of sheer perversity?
Is Gary Sinise the only cool Republican in the known universe?
