I don't know about that - you'd be heading into dangerous territory for sure if it could be proved that there was some kind of "paedophile" or "rapist" gene but my (albeit limited) reading in this area leads me to believe that this is the sort of behaviour that's ingrained on people at a young age.
For me, the issue is the following:
a) Effective punishment for serious sexual offences - seriously reduces the possibility of reoffending, relatively low cost to the state, high level of de-actualisation for the individual concerned while keeping him a contributing member of society.
b) A permanent solution to what could be argued to be a temporary problem, rather like the death penalty, doesn't solve the root issue of sexual violence in society.

There doesn't have to be, just the possibility or intent.

This is a good counterargument, though from a legal perspective.
After time served, in the psychological time, it might be an option (which would allow the person to return to normal society).
Yes, I know that my suggestion would create large psychiatric wards. I think that they are needed.

Not just an option for them, depending on psychiatric involvement.
Basically, after time served, sexual criminals (little kids/violent rape) go to a psychiatric ward. There they psychologists try to make them better. As part of the treatment, castration can be suggested.
Once the doctors feel that the person won't do so again, they will be allowed back into the community.

I actually can't find anything backing Kuci's claim that the laws in Florida, et. al have been declared unconstitutional other than random whining from the ACLU.

Fair enough, good link. It would seem that if you assume one commits a severe sexual offence because of some ingrained childhood trauma, a psychological solution is more appropriate.
I suppose that the same arguments applied against the death penalty would also apply against chem. castration (though I suspect the same ignorami who support the DP would support CC).
If you support chemical castration and would be happy to violate privacy and a person's dominion over their body, then you may as well prevent prisoners pumping weights for fear of the extra physical strength they attain.

Whaleboy: FWIW, Evidence from Scandinavia suggests that chemical castration can cut rates of reoffending to 5% from more than 40%.

Irrelevant. A bullet in the back of the head would cut reoffending rates to 0% but that's not really relevant to it's voracity as a punishment is it? Not does it answer the fundamental question of a how a society treats those that it incarcerates.
