I love ties. Back in my professorial days, when I could have taught in jeans and a t-shirt if I'd wanted to, I tended to wear ties, usually from my great collection of vintage neckware from the 40s and 50s.

Now that I'm with the State Dept, though, I'm compelled to wear ties -- and boring ones at that -- so I don't tend to don ties for fun anymore. (Though living in a tropical climate contributes to that, too).

                  Most working days - yes.
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

I'm with Rufus. I adore tied. I love wearing them and try to whenever I can.

They're sleek, orderly, geometrical and make a good improv collar and leash for post-work.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
                    -Richard Dawkins

I wear a tie about 50% of the time, but definitely not when Starchild is around.

I tried the other site (where all the OT refugees have gone) but couldn't find a thread worth reading, much less posting in.

I'd rather hang here and bug the management.

I still wear ties when needed... However, I wear them more in the winter time. In the summer time, unless we have client or external meetings, I'll just wear a golf shirt and try to stay comfortable.
