I've only used Steam to buy and play Day of Defeat Source. I never turn it on unless I want to play the game, so there's no problem with it always being on. I'm too attached to real, tangible CDs to buy any games on Steam that don't have to be on Steam.

I honestly am the opposite... I hate CDs, hate having to install product off of them, hate having to put them in the drive. I have no intention of buying another game on CD/DVD that I can buy on Direct2Drive or equivalent, even if it means I pay a bit more (which I generally won't, as I either buy a game right on release, or years later when it's cheap in both places).<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
