What sucks about losing this opportunity, is that Abraham Lincoln is one of the FEW presidents in my country's history whom I come closest to admiring. I thought it would have been great to be involved with a project on Abraham Lincoln.

On top of that, my major and my academic specialization was in the time period during which Lincoln lived, and my thesis was on Illinois and the issue of race within that state during 1852 - 1869.

So in spite of all of this, I'm guessing there were applicants who somehow could top my strong qualifications; like perhaps there were those who have direct experience already, as a research specialist, or they have a PhD.

“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

I share the sentiment of other posters in that this is probably for the better. Despite what it might look like from our limited view of the future and what that job might have required of you I have faith that we end up where we belong. Keep you head up, keep striving to find something, and you'll be happy.

I have many times not gotten jobs that I really, really wanted only to get another job that I didn't really want and find out it was exactly what I was looking for.

That's true! I could end up finding something I never knew I would be passionately interested in.
