one of the very few rap bands that i have absolutely, and totally, no reason to ever listen to them. not that they are NOT capable of creating music which i would like... they just have chosen not to. meh.

yes. but honestly Tech N9ne only has a few songs that i actually enjoy. he is another artist with lots of potential with little enjoyable products.

Good singing or good lyrics can really make a song. Though by and large American Pop Music has terrible lyrics (at least the contemporary stuff). It's odd that this would especially be the case for rap, being that it is (or at least used to be) lyrically driven.

Though really, the cake goes to the Japanese for their Hardcore Punk lyrics which rarely make any sense.

Vocal is just another instrument IMO. If they say something interesting, then fine, but good music > good lyrics any time.

I disagree. Even though I generally prefer instrumental music, a good song = good music + good lyrics that goes well with the music.

For example, I hate it when a singer has to mumble in order to make the lyrics fit the music. Its one of the problems I have with Radiohead. The music is often great, the lyrics also. Unfortunately, Yorke frequently has to mumble the lyrics to make them fit the music. Despite that, I still think that Yorke is a very good singer. I just don't like the mumbling.

And, no, lyrics doesn't have to include a social commentary
