The French battleship which had all of its guns placed forward. The Franch wanted to imbue their navy with the doctrine of elan a la outrance in the same way as their army so they constructed a battleship designed with the idea that it's only option in battle was to charge the enemy. It was one of the ships sunk in harbor by the British, which was probably a good thing as many more lives would have been lost if it had been sunk at sea.

IIRC the Soviets actually built a diesel powered fighter.

The American Grant tank was designed with a fixed in place main gun on one side of the body and a turrent with a relatively weak gun on top. The incredible thing is that this tank actually did see useful service in North Africa in 1941 (lend-lease aid to the British) and 1942. The British actually asked for as many as the US could spare.

Mock-up tanks are always good to deceive the enemy about your true strength.

What makes you think it was fixed? I am pretty sure it had some movement. And even if it didn't, it was as good as any assault gun.

The Maus super heavy tank. Several other "cool" German designs that were either a result of NS megalomania (like the Maus) or of pure desperation at the end of the war (Mistelgespann for example).

The Russian "Flying Tank" of 1940 (IIRC?)

By fixed I mean it was mounted in a sponson on the right side of the tank and could only traverse 30 degrees in the vertical axis. It could of course also be elevated and lowered. The main gun was a mere 75mm, which was a little small for an assault gun by that time.

But not small for a main gun at the time. Seems most internet sites think the main drawback for the tank was its high profile and the low position of the main gun.

In other words no such thing as a hull down position with this one.

                  And it was fugly.

That might have been a great idea. If they could have come up with a means to tackle the relatively low power (some sort of turbocharger or supercharger) it would have had an impressively long range, making it ideal for bomber support.
