What was the stupidest invention ever attenpted to be passed of as military hardware?
The Ice Carrier was actually quite a good idea. It wouldn't have been of ice. It would have been made of ice mixed tons of other things that made it super hard and it still floats. The only problem is that it takes a long time to build.
This probably doesn't really count, as it turned out to be a major military and spaceflight technology.
However, as far as WW2 was concerned, the V2 was pretty crap. If they'd spent the effort they put into that on building tanks, maybe we'd all be speaking German now. I saw one today at the RAF Museum in Hendon, and learned that more of them hit Antwerp than their target of London.

Eh? Antwerp was a target. And though I wouldn't know whether it was worthwhile costs/benefits-wise (probably not), the V1 and V2 campaign was actually pretty effective in hampering port operations.

If all that fuel, electronics and expertise had been invested in anti-aircraft missiles (for example), then the Germans could have fought on for longer.

Yes- that was a particularly dumb one. Unless you think transforming your enemies from unmotivated amateurs into hormonally-enraged would-be rapists is going to boost your army's morale.

Maybe, but even though it may not have been the best bang for the buck in those particular circumstances, I'd argue missiles aren't a stupid invention.
