  • Summer Rain Cooking

My favorite thing about Summer is BBQ. I BBQ at least 3 times per week during the summer. Several years ago I gave away my gas grill to return to the slow ways of charcoal and woods to supply my fire, and haven't looked back. I love smoking my foods (a form of cooking, I don't put them in rolling papers), I love using chips, planks, and my fire box. We stock up on meat at loval FFA auctions and pretty much am able to have chicken, pork, of steak anytime I want...

Even with all this, in Ohio, it tends to rain more in the summer than it did in California. I won't grill in the rain since my bbq is cast iron and will rust. I went to dollar stores yesterday to find a cheap Webber gril, but the started at $80!

Thus, what I'm look for is some thing good to make on hot summer days that are too wet to grill and won't heat up the house too much (read, uses the oven). I'm thinking Panini, any other ideas?

Maybe this is more fall/spring, but you can't go wrong with stew and soups.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Ever think of building a "shed" which consists of nothing but framework and a corregated metal roof? You can barbeque under this, the smoke can pour out, and you & your barbeque will stay dry.

I have a lovely indoor grill I use for days like this, or any other day. It's way too hot in the summer to even want to grill outside. I can make anything that I would make on a regular BBQ anytime I want!

I'm not currently living in Wales.

                  Are you in England now?

No, sadly. I am currently living in an American desert where summer time is a good reminder to go to church cause stepping outside the front door is what I imagine hell must feel like and I could not stand an eternity of that. I miss the good ol' UK.

Yeah, I was in Spain recently and I found it too hot. Makes you appreciate the cooler, rainier weather of the UK.

Definitely! However, I will say that I am starting to appreciate the milder winters here as opposed to getting frostbite on my nose just because my scarf fell off for 3 seconds like back in England. Luckily, I can use the indoor grill in the winter time too!

Yeah, it would be nice to spend the winters somewhere a little more forgiving.
