  • Teh painting quiz thread

    Any earnest fans of painting?

If you are tempted then know that how this works is similar to analogous threads; in order for your answer to be maximised you have to name the painting and the artist, and then can post one yourself

Ok, here is the first one:

    The painting's name is "nocheating"

Looks like Dali attempting an homage to Hieronymous Bosch.

          It is not Dali.

I had already placed some clues in my OP, but here are some more:

-he was german (he is not alive)

-he is related to a certain elephant

            MaX Ernst,
            Die Versuchung des Heiligen Antonius.

I am not sure if I'm going to post another picture, for this thread surely will attract the evil spirit of this forum.

Hey, you found the answer, you now HAVE to post a new image

Btw i think that clues should be more obvious (i used the word 'earnest' (ernst) and max (imised), however perhaps it would be better to supply some clear clues along with the painting.
For example for this painting clues could have been:

-Painter is linked to a certain elephant (the elephant of the Celebes, being another of his paintings)

-The title of the painting is the same with that of a novel by Gustave Flaubert (the temptation of st. Anthony)

              etc

I guessed the painting because of the elephant. I really like Elephant Celebes painting. It's so cute.

I'll try to find something. But I will take my time. I have to read a book about teh evil Fritz right now

Great Fritz, Alexander the Macedonian of the XVIII century, wouldn't like this woman. Indeed, he thought there are too many of her kind in Poland. Really, if he's met her, he would surely look as if he's eaten a lemon. You may have some difficulties guessing that one. May You be lucky. Someone hopefully will guess it. Can't be that hard, can it. I gave You some hints after all.

Heresson can you provide some more clues?

I would also advise against choosing too obscure paintings (not saying that this one definately can be named as such, although i have never come across it before -but then again i am not that fond of realism).

Moreover i do not know what "great Fritz" means..
I trust that she has lemons in her basket? (of course i already tried searching for paintings with lemons, but had no luck there)

                          You antisemite!

Great Fritz = Frederic the Great.

but don't get mislead by this. I already told You what I've ment by that. All the clues are there.
Give yourself some time. Until your mind is clear. Even the dumbest can guess it. Say what You want. Still, I think it's not that hard.

So is it by any stretch a reasonably known painting?

Always a bad idea to choose something relatively known only in one country (im sure not many people would know any other greek painter apart from El Greco)
