  • Day of Mourning and Hope

66 years ago, in the early morning hours Soviet NKVD troops and local collaborators started mass deportations of "enemies of the people" - teachers, priests, academics, former government officials, successful farmers and other "class enemies'. A total of 18 228 people is estimated to have been sent to Siberia and Northwestern Russia before Germany invaded USSR via Lithuanian territory on June 22nd. Between 1941-1953 a total of 135'522 Lithuanian citizens were arrested and held in concentration camps all over USSR. Most of them died.

    Never forget!

Yeah, in Finland... wait, we got invaded. Nevermind.

And they wonder why Baltics don't remember the Soviet Union fondly...
