66 years ago, in the early morning hours Soviet NKVD troops and local collaborators started mass deportations of "enemies of the people" - teachers, priests, academics, former government officials, successful farmers and other "class enemies'. A total of 18 228 people is estimated to have been sent to Siberia and Northwestern Russia before Germany invaded USSR via Lithuanian territory on June 22nd. Between 1941-1953 a total of 135'522 Lithuanian citizens were arrested and held in concentration camps all over USSR. Most of them died.
