In a literal sense, or a Drake 'I hate Baby Boomers' Tungsten sense?

In a literal sense. But I suppose I'll be getting it back with interest at some point...

It's a non-government body funded by the private sector.

There is in the UK. Look at the new NHS computers project - the guy running it picked up £300k a year. Sure, jobs in the public sector rarely get much over £100k, but there are plenty of £30-80k jobs in the civil service, especially if you include QANGOs like the FSA.

Actually you don't even have to look wider than core civil service jobs.

The payband for senior adviser starts at around £60k, with some variation between depts. Divisional Manager posts and higher are all negotiated separately but higher than £60k, obviously, and there are a fair few grades above divisional manager.

The perm sec of a dept earns more than the PM.

If you mean all that for working hard to serve the people, then sure.
