  • Theyre competitive in a different way and explore some parts of the game that you fail at, just as you fail at them in life.

and Civ 2's limited settings arent the authority on settings.

      HEY!

Chest beatings, claiming ones settings are superior, or thinking somebody is a civ noob are one thing...

That comment is just a pure personal attack.

      Enough of that crap.

      • And also remember, the money is in SP, not MP. MP represents a small percentage of the market.
The funny thing is that this thinking is present in most games. It's why PC game sales are declining. You have a bunch of clueless techies that have absolutely no idea what the hell they're doing when it comes to MP and communities. I had a guy from Ensemble Studios tell me the reason they were seeing declining numbers in Age of Empires was because people were moving on to new games and Age of Empires 2's success was due to it being the right game at the right time. Here's why people are leaving games:

        1. It's no longer about good gameplay so much as it is putting out graphics. Designers honestly believe the majority of people are content to spin their camera 360 degrees while they drool over animated graphics. It's actually a god damn insult to hear that they felt the need to simplify the game in order to not make it so difficult for beginning players. I started Civ1 when I was 10 and it was a hell of a lot more complicated than Civ4.

        2. Complicated games are what keep people playing. If you've figured out the game and it's so easy you win with no real effort then what is the point of playing? This is just a simple basic of games. It blows my mind that these people don't seem to grasp this simple concept.

        3. Blizzard is probably the only company that got it right. They built their games around MP because they realized long before anyone else that SP sells itself. All you need are some scenarios and some decent gameplay and graphics and people are going to buy the game. You can focus on gameplay for MP and it will always still be a good SP game. On the other hand you can't focus on SP and expect it to be a good MP game.

        4. Starcraft has proved once and for all that MP is incredibly important to company reputation, game sales, and continued popularity with future title sales in mind. There's a reason they took so long to begin work on starcraft 2 and that's because starcraft 1 continued to sell for a long time. You only have so many sequels you can make in a game before you run out of ways to improve it. In this regard, Civilization has just been idiotic. Rather than putting out an awesome game like Civ2 was (which just happened to have the longest length of popularity of all the sequels), they are putting out games and selling them on name alone like Civ4 and Civ3 both have. I predict Firaxis going to be in for a rude awakening when they go and try to sell Civ5. I'm not sure they realize how many people they turned off with Civ4.

        5. In conclusion, games should be based on MP, SP sells itself. Firaxis clearly is looking for the quick buck by pumping out expansion packs and sequels so quickly and not focusing on gameplay enough. Their continued desire to follow the trend of the majority of gaming companies out there through continued degeneration of the complexity of their games is going to have a negative effect on future titles.

it can be backed up with evidence. and its not a personal attack. he has no grasp of diplomacy in game nor does he have any grasp of it in real life, or poly life, therefore he fails both in game and in real life in relation to dimplomacy.

You're basing this real life assumption on what again? Not that it matters since I find a guy like you so far beneath me that these types of insults have never and will never register. Look at my registration date on here and ask yourself if you think I will take anything you say into account.

                • You guys are ignoring the fact that it doesn't bother me. Honestly, you'd have to be pretty weak and pathetic to allow someone on an internet forum to bring you down. I know this will come as a huge surprise to you guys but I have never taken anything anyone has said on here personally and when I get off this site I don't even think about it. This is purely entertainment for me so by all means plug away. I do kind of take the whole suggestions to fix Civ4 seriously though.

Not personal attacks like MRT was doing. MRT went out of the way to not make it about games, but to attack his real life person.

                      • Dammit, all this on-topic discussion made me install Warlords and it broke Civ4. Now somebody has to go to the Civ4-Help forum and fix it for me.

I blame Ming for allowing it to stay here.

I tried to spare you that fate. Sadly my plea fell on deaf ears and now we see the results.

how is it an attack if i can show that he in fact has a clear lack of tact in his arguments and insults people by saying they are beneath him etc etc?

should i just say "You failed at being tactful" with his words in quotes?

What don't you seem to understand that I don't care about what you think? I have never cared about being tactful, I have never cared about making sure I didn't hurt people's feelings, and I have certainly never cared about harmony. I don't come on here to make friends and I don't come on here to be nice. Diplomacy doesn't exist in my vocabulary and it never has. You don't even register in my world my friend so by all means keep making your small little insults because all it does is further amuse me. I am a totally different beast on here than I am in real life. The fact that you can't make a distinction between the two only lowers you in my eyes.

                              • its amusing to us though that your lack of tact in dealing with people online is the same reason you cant play anything but 1v1 games well.

we realize you dont care what anyone thinks, or that the idea of tactful discussion is a figment of the world's imagination, but that's not going to stop us from calling you out on it and pointing and laughing at your folly.
