  • Weeee. Degree done.

I wrote my last exam last week. The University of East Anglia has spent three years educating me in biochemistry and now I just nervously await my results next month.

If finances allowed it, I'd sleep for a month. Alas, I have to work and flat hunt for in October, I start my Ph.D. at the University of Sussex.

(p.s., I'm bored and doing this for attention)
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Congrats! Now prepare for a long life of underpay, tons of work, and absolutely no social life.

Well done on choosing academia: you and I will be finishing up our doctorates in the same year now (probably). What's the topic of your research?

Dr. Starchild?! There'll be no living with you.

BTW: In England, there's Middlesex, an Essex, a Sussex, and a Wessex, but nowhere is there a Nosex.

Not with a PhD in biochem.
