The testing concern is a good reason - and is one of mine for abstaining for now. The slippery slope argument, where a spliff today is crack tomorrow I don't agree with. I know plenty of people who've been stoners for twenty years plus who haven't upgraded their habit to something nasty.

I can also add that giving up MJ is a piece of cake - compared to quitting alcohol or tobacco. It might be habit-forming but it's not physically addictive.

There are plenty of non-"pseudo intellectual" studies proving the lack of any real risk from smoking marijuana. Really, the biggest risks that exist are there because the drug is not legal (marijuana being laced with something else, etc)

Marijuana is never laced with something without your knowledge. The dealer would only sell you laced weed, if they had laced weed around (it's very uncommon in drug culture to lace weed), and he accidentally sold it to you. The problem is that lacing weed with another psychoactive chemical costs money and ends up being a loss if you sell it without compensating for that. No you don't have to worry about them putting crack or meth or LSD in your weed (neither LSD nor Psilocybin mushrooms make you trip when smoked), because even if you do end up addicted you'll buy from whoever sells it, not just him/her.

As far as getting burned goes, you are much more likely to end up with oregano than laced weed. Now when you move into chemicals that's a different story altogether. Ectasy is often cut with amphetamines or meth, and iirc Burroughs writes about people substituting strychnine for heroin (but that's Burroughs writing so *** grana salis). In the end people have never died exclusively from marijuana. Smoking is hardly the best way to absorb THC, and the amount that you need to absorb is so exorbitantly high that you would likely pass out before you began to approach it.

And just because I'm on a roll...

Under the Gateway Theory which our government subscribes to, it actually makes more sense to legalize pot and thus take the easy stepping stone into the deadly dwelling of drugs out of the hands of the clandestine pharmacists. It's harder to meet and H dealer if you get your pot at 7-11 as opposed to crack head Steve's house.
