Yeah, I was thinking China myself, but Saudi Arabia is a pretty decent example... especially since we aren't even trying to 'engage' them in a transition to democracy.

IMHO, the Saudis are overlooking a great opportunity to cement in their dynasty. An abolute monarchy cannot long exist, at least with properity, in the 21st Century.
The decentralization which breeds new ideas, economic opportunity and popular support comes from having input from sources outside the royal family. For Saudia Arabia to proper over the long run, it can either evolve into a constitutional monarchy, a la Britain, or it can dispense with the monarchy, a la France.
They can choose to have the destiny of House of Windsor or of the House of Bourbon .
