I love the irony how the usual keyboard cowards are at odds with the posters who have actually served in the military, or served in the disaster that their opinions encourage...
Drake, your precious surge isn't working - I think it's high time you and Dinodic suited up and shipped out there to show these military types how it's done!
But keep it up, it just shows how far this place has fallen that this sort of tirade of abuse is allowed to continue unchecked - all very entertaining!

It's sad to see what has happened to you. Reduced to defending a kneejerk position even other vets on this board think is a pile of ****. Man up and admit you overreacted or slink away and try to preserve some shred of the dignity you once had because right now you aren't worth my time dealing with anymore in this thread.

YOUR routine is getting old. Repeatedly harrassing, berating, and denigrating Oerdin because you strongly disagree with his opinions. You don't have any respect for the service he has done for United States, do you?
Experiance means jack if you learned nothing from it. That is not how I feel about Oerdin, but he can't hide behind his Army time every time he posts a stupid article and then draws ridiculous self serving conclusions from it when not supported by the OP.
Though he doesn't hide behind his time there, others always bring it up.

And once again, a theory of yours spirals to the ground in flames.

Well, you're hardly in the thick of the action on the ground in Iraq as a Navy boy so I'm discounting you from any meaningful input, as I usually do...

Let's see, surge has been going on for about four months now with no real discernable success in cracking down on the insurgents and militias. Instead the killing goes on and an extra US soldier a day is being killed.
The only 'success' I am seeing is a surge in US casualties, whilst the insurgents lay low and bide their time. The Surge is not succeeding, therefore if something is not succeeding, it is not much of a stretch to say it is failing. Oerdin's article merely points out that it seems to have already been agreed to pull the extra forces out next year, so unless the US has some kind of startling trick up its sleeve that it hasn't shown in the past four years, the surge will continue to fail and all the cockroaches will come out to play in the sun again just like before. Only the US will have backed itself in the corner with this stupid surge and never again be able to go on the offensive in Iraq.
In effect, the US will lose in Iraq next year - unless they grovel to the Iranians...
I approve of this thread and all its implications. Namely the luv fest and commonality of purpose from: MtG, Mobius and Oerdin

I realize you have a video game understanding of Iraq and combat, but google KAAOT, ABOT, and the USS Firebolt and get back to me
I bet taking down drug and arms trafficers in the NAG doesn't count either.
Not that "on the ground" matters, but there are 13,000 USN personel that fit that description right now. I realize naval units can't do this in Civ, but this is the real world (where I live).
But what do I know, I am just IN the military, not a member of the "usual keyboard cowards" like you.

And how is that different than the orignial plan? How far away is next year? When in that year are they talking about? What is the definition of surge?
All questions you predictabley gloss over, like Oerdin.

February 16, 2004 off the coast of Iraq, Persian Gulf
"USS FIREBOLT suffers a 3- to 4-inch gash in her hull and experiences minor flooding, after the ship collides with a buoy off the Iraqi coast. Nobody was injured in the accident. Following a Judge Advocate General’s investigation into the incident, FIREBOLT's Commanding Officer, Lt. Cmdr. Michael T. Sullivan, was relieved of command on April 1 ."

Drugs!?? You're nothing but a glorified coast guard!

So, how much time have you spent patrolling the streets in Baghdad?
But yeah, that's because they're running out of soldiers so they need the poor navy guys to fill in - I saw a programme about this, they were ****ting bricks and saying things like "this isn't what I signed up for..."!
But what do I know, I am just IN the military, not a member of the "usual keyboard cowards" like you.
Ah yes, but I have never advocated a war in Iraq - which is the difference between me and chickenhawks like Drake and Dinodoc...
I used to play toy soldiers in the TA for a while, but after a while taking orders from people with a 1/10th of my IQ got a bit boring. Basically there was a time I thought seriously about joining the Army, but quickly realised through the TA that I wasn't very good at taking orders and even as an officer, you would still be taking orders from someone...
And how is that different than the orignial plan?
It isn't, which shows how stoopid and lacking in imagination the US army is.
How far away is next year?
Oh I don't know, 7 months away maybe? No wonder you're a grunt!
When in that year are they talking about?
What is the definition of surge?
Look up the dictionary!
Or for that matter, cast your mind back to what they were describing when they originally laid out the plans.
All questions you predictabley gloss over, like Oerdin.
Nope. Fire me stupid moronic questions like these and I'm more than happy to hand your ass to you on a plate.
