I did not make a negative comment about MLK, nor did I make a negative comment about African Americans.
A joke is not a negative comment.

I have respect for MLK and I think he did a great thing for America and America's black people.

Really Zkrib, I think you're overreacting in recent days. There can certainly be racist jokes, but just because a joke includes someone from a group that has been targetted by racism or other forms of discrimination before it doesn't mean they never can be included in any jokes anymore. I knew people in wheel chairs and they made jokes about disabled people repeatedly. If you bring in a taboo that certain people cannot be mentioned in jokes at all you'll only add to the idea that they are somehow "not normal" which is IMO counterproductve on the issue of racism or discrimination in general. There's certainly a line one should not cross where jokes become outright racist etc, but I don't see how anyone has done that here in recent times....

On the other hand, falsely attributing an uneducated use of words to a champion of a group that was for centuries stereotyped as being dumb and uneducated, it NOT a joke. It is racism!

Also portraying Dr. King as uneducated in a thread about animals when, for centuries, slaves and descendants of slaves were viewed as being subhuman is also not a joke.

For my entire adult life, I've watched my country wrestle with its racist legacy. The MKL post was the kind of race-based "humor" that was seen forty years ago. It wasn't funny then, and it's even more offensive now.
