Using a fire arm to go hunting is extremely different from claiming a fire arm is needed for self defense. Most animals including bears and pigs will run away from people and only become dangerous when wounded or cornered. There are exceptions like mother bears defending their cubs or if you surprise an animal while it is feeding or a grizzly (none of those in Alabama these days) that is being territorial but must will simply run away from a human.

When I was a kid and had moved into a newly built neighbourhood with my family, there was a party thrown for people to get to know eachother. They had called one of the major butcher companies in Sweden and apparently if you want them to they send out a couple of guys who grill pigs whole over a fire and cut them up for you. Two pretty small pigs but that was alot of meat I can tell you and tasted good to.
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

There were a fair number of Hawaiians and people from Hawaii in my school when I was growing up (remember I live in a big navy town). So people would sometimes have pig roasts for birthday parties or what not. A small pig does indeed go a long way.

I think what this shoes is kids can be around guns. I think our society is so frightened of guns, they don't want to teach kids guns.

I had never even seen a gun when I was a kid. I had to learn the hard way. not the real hard way- that'd be shooting yourself. I was smart enough to realize guns are capable of shooting, and I don't point it at myself.

people are ignorant about guns because they have never handled on in real life. I think every boy should be issued a gun at age 9.

                            Why not the girls?

I have fired a gun once or twice. Wasn't that exciting. I am thinking about getting one though, just to be american.

kind of a silly reason to have a gun.

guns aren't as pervasive as europeans would have you believe. I don't know any official stats. Sure there are a lot of guns. But a lot of nuts have many.

Like I said, I never held one as a kid. I didn't know anyone who had one (though in hindsight, perhaps they never told us if they had one as they didn't want the kids getting into it).

I didn't fire one until my brother got on in the 90's. Naturally after that, I wanted one. . So I got one. Haven't fired it in ages. I fired it on 3 separate occasions. I also qualified on the .45 and 12 gauge while doing temporary duty in security in the navy. I even fired left handed.

but even as an adult, I don't know many people who have guns. Us city boys just don't use them. Unless you are a criminal, you really don't need a gun.

~44% of US households have a gun in them.
