I would like to point out that a Yank is a rarely used term that describes a New Yorker not an American.

No. A "Yank" is an American...but I'd never use it referring to someone from a Dixie state.

If you're from south of the border, you spell it "Yanqui" (which is very cool).

I do admit that a yank can be a broader description than a New Yorker, but I'd never describe anyone not from the North East as a as an Yank/Yankee.

I was under the impression than in the South a Yankee was anyone from the North.

No, that's not right. A Yankee is north of the Mason-Dixon. A New Yorke yankee is like...an adjective.
