  • Hey Euros!

I know. I know. It's a copycated title, but different topic.

I would like to point out that a Yank is a rarely used term that describes a New Yorker not an American.

No. A "Yank" is an American...but I'd never use it referring to someone from a Dixie state.

If you're from south of the border, you spell it "Yanqui" (which is very cool).

So why is the basketball team that plays at the Rose Bowl called the Houston Yankees?

        Good show, dolphin.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I do admit that a yank can be a broader description than a New Yorker, but I'd never describe anyone not from the North East as a as an Yank/Yankee.

Britain isn't in Europe, since when?

Has the tug finally pulled it across the Atlantic to be off the coast of Virginia?

I'd like to point out that a frog is often used term that describes an amphibian species, not a Frenchman.

I was under the impression than in the South a Yankee was anyone from the North.

Or to quote Wikipedia, which attributes this to E.B. White

To foreigners, a Yankee is an American.
To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner.
To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner.
To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander.
To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.
And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

No, that's not right. A Yankee is north of the Mason-Dixon. A New Yorke yankee is like...an adjective.
