Oy. You wouldnt be diverting the current revenues, youd be applying a different tax at the same point.

If thats too difficult, lets not apply it at the pump. Im not sure we should anyway. Afterall, we dont want to tax say, ethanol(not for THIS tax - taxes to support highways are a different matter). And we DO want to tax oil being used for purposes other than gasoline. Apply the tax at the refinery.

I'm not exactly sure who you are addressing here. I don't think anyone here has suggested a sit-down with Osama. Further, most of us are concentrating on ways of mimizing the significance of the region - not appeasing anyone.

Goodness forbid, meanwhile, that anybody TALK about anything. If you're not dropping bombs, you're not gettin' 'r DONE!

But don't let that get in the way of your rant about lefties.

This post shows a very good understanding of the fantasyland world that liberals would like you to believe. Notice the "gettin' 'r DONE" quote. If repeated enough, then libs hope you will begin to believ that nonsense is true. Looks like it has worked in Arrian's case.

          Interesting case study. LOL!

Wow... trying to use Arrian as some sort of 'fantasyland' case study... you sure you aren't high or anything, Plato? Seriously? Because you seem like you've been drinking the kool-aide.

A lie by another name... In Osama's declaration of war it was our foreign policy he identified as the reason for war, not because of our culture.
What about terrorist attacks on India, Australia, England, Israel, the Philippines, Thailand, Russia, Spain, Canada and others? Would you also attribute those to foreign policy, not culture?

That's a pretty random list of countries. What do the Philippines, Canada, Thailand and Spain have in common? It isn't some specific foreign policy value. No, what they have in common is that they just plain aren't Muslim enough.

The "they hate our freedoms" shtick is getting old, and it's obviously demagoguery designed to appeal to American vanity. But that doesn't mean there isn't an element of truth to it. Islamic terrorists clearly do hate freedoms (and other cultural values) that are incompatible with Islam.

You forgot Tim McVeigh. What is your point? Dont answer yet. Russia was in Afghanistan and is in Chechnya. Spain, Britain, the US and Australia were or are in Iraq, and Indonesia was hit for Aussie vacation spots. India has a dispute over Kasmir, and Sri Lanka, and... What was your point? You gonna attribute every terrorist group and their local agenda with AQ to tell us terrorism is ~random?

We've been over there for decades ****ing with them, I'll accept that as their motive before I'll believe a group of Muslims woke up one day and decided to kill a bunch of people half way around the world because they are "free". Isn't that called Occam's Razor or something?

                      • It's pretty clear to me that it's PLATO who hasn't read OBL's fatwa.

That would be expecting too much. As we all know, reading things and critical thinking lead to "fantasyland."

Specifically in regard to the use of the term "Islamists" mind you. I'm not aware of too many "Islamists" who qualify as moderates to me.

Muslims, otoh, are a much larger group.

                          • Ok, here is PLATO's distillation of OBL's fatwa:

Go read Osama's own words in AQ's manifesto.

They are killing us because we are not muslim, have power, and keep them from imposing islamic law on all of us.
                            And here is the text:

                              -Arrian

He is quite adamant about the evil of substituting secular law for Sharia, and thats largely what its about. Now it seems to apply only to Islamic countries, but whats an Islamic country?

"Massacres in Tajakestan, Burma, Cashmere, Assam, Philippine, Fatani, Ogadin, Somalia, Erithria, Chechnia and in Bosnia-Herzegovina took place, massacres that send shivers in the body and shake the "

AQ seems here, and elsewhere, when listing Islamic countries to include any place a substantial mulsim minority lives (yes the above line references only "massacres" but its clear from other AQ docs they also assert sov, and can always assert a massacre where there is contested sovereignty - fighting back against Jihadis is "massacre")

When a state is majority mulsim, with a non-muslim minority, support for minority rebels is aggression against Islam - eg Sudan. Indonesia (east Timor). When a state is majority non-muslim, with a muslim minority, OPPOSING muslim rebels is aggression against Islam - Phillipines, Chechnya, etc. When a terr is disputed, supporting the nonmuslim side is aggression against Islam - Kashmir, Ogaden, etc.

Basically its easy to see that IF OBL got his caliphate over the muslim world, there would ALWAYS be border conflicts, the Caliphate would always see itself as offended against, until such time as the world WAS muslim. There would be no steady state. The implication that because OBL doesnt call for the imposition of Sharia over Detroit or London he would be satisfied with a steady state vs the rest of the world IS fantasyland, IMO.

Of course if muslims were to gain a majority in any Western country (unlikely I think, but thats due in part to demographic trends in the muslim world that OBL would reverse) by OBLs own lights that country too would have to have sharia, even IF the local muslims opposed it.

Plus of course, there is the belief of some jihadis that seeing their success, we would all convert.

I really dont think OBL sees a great future for non-muslims sov, if he triumphs.

Why don't you post links to everything he has said and AQ's published agenda instead of a single fatwa?

The answer is obvious...it would totally destroy your position.

This is typical of the idiocy of the left. Show one little thing to try to discredit the truth.

The real question is...why? Don't you understand that they are coming for you too?
