Nixon was a rat bastard. Perhaps marginally better for us than Bush the Younger, but I dunno...

Put Nixon in today's political climate and I'd bet a lot of his liberal positions would vanish in a heartbeat.

Nixon was a liberal compared to today's GOP.

Hell, for that matter, he was a liberal compared to today's Democratic Party.

Let us not forget that Nixon was also a criminal who was pushed out of office for very good reasons.

****, I would take Nixon over W. Bush. Well, at least, '68-'74 Nixon. Nixon is probably such a political snake that if he were a politician in these modern times he would drop half his liberal positions.

But for being such a paranoid, power-nutty criminal bastard, Nixon's term would not have been that bad. Then again that's pretty much what he was at his core; the liberal positions could well have been merely a fluffy topping...

Well, right now we have an administration that is paranoid, power-nutty, and criminal. And it isn't even competent, which at least Nixon was.

If people think Clinton's 8 years were worse then Bush Jr's then they are completely disconnected from reality.
Clinton was clearly one of the US's best Presidents in living memory while Bush is one of the worst if not the worst in living memory.
Bush got stuck with Clinton's mistakes, not that he hasn't made a mess of things. But Clinton was in office for 8 years while we kept troops in Saudi Arabia inspite of the attacks. Furthermore, the American people were kept in the dark about Al Qaeda's tactics, including the hijacking of planes as flying bombs - 9/11 would not have happened if the passengers knew the fate awaiting them.

IIRC, the Saudis requested they remain because of the fear of Saddam.

Did ANYONE know of this tactic before 9/11??

True, as shown by Flight 93.

Yes. The Japanese did it in WWII. It was the subject of the pilot episode of The Lone Gunmen. It was specifically mentioned as a likely method of attack by the Hart Report. And the Manila police uncovered plans for a 9/11 style attack when they nailed Ramsey Yusef.

Yeah... you know, when I first saw the news on 9/11, as I was still in the disbelief phase, I was like, hey, didn't I see that on TV, like the X-Files or some thing like that (Lone Gunmen was a spin-off series.).

I rather have to chuckle at the idea that Clinton or Bush maybe should have organised public awareness campaigns to warn the people of America that when their plane is hijacked, it may end up in a skyscraper.

It isn't like it would have gone over as well as a President in 2000 telling people to "duck and cover" in case Iran got the nuke .
