Something any Christian or compassionate person of any faith should support.
People in schools and social service depts have been doing that for years. why would we need a federal cabinet dept to do it?

There aren't 200+ similarly minded folks running for Congress in '08.

Plus as long as I'm the one who is fantasizing I get to make the rules

        • So realistically people think we're either going to get Giuliani or Obama? Or what?

          • People on Apolyton are weird. Seriously, it is pretty open at the moment. The scary thing is that Guiliani isn't being laughed off the stage.

It is definitely too early to tell.

Well yes. More specifically, I was asking whether people were voting based on personal preference alone or on their predictions of who would actually win, regardless of preference.

                • You guys do realize that the parties are essentially marketing personalities and political stances, right? It doesn't make a difference who gets nominated. The parties stay the same. There won't be any major changes. An Obama presidency isn't going to look that much different from a Clinton presidency, policy-wise (even the vast majority of political appointees would be the same). It's all about public perception.

One can vote for an individual if it makes them feel better, but you are electing a party... like it or not.

                  • Save, the parties are so big tent that there are numerous different groups wtihin them. The people who are up for election generally represent different aspects fo the big tent of their respective parties. As such, who gets elected helps determine which parts of the big tent get their day in the sun...

So you're saying that if McCain had been nominated and elected 6 years ago instead of Bush, we'd still be in this big pile of manure?? I think not.

                              • I'd probably vote for Clinton or Obama, Edwards scares me. After some initial consideration, pandering to the religious right by the leading Republican candidates, must reiterate my traditional position:

I'd vote for a yellow dog before I'd vote for a Republican.

(Though I'd vote Republican before I'd vote for the Bloc.)
