Well this whole sidetrip happened because in the black history thread you had this exchange with patroklos

If you think something is necessary you like it and want it. Stop the BS.
And it certainly does matter. That's why you vote. That's how you get a pay check.
Since then I have been considering this part of the statement
You an Patroklos were talking about war but I switched it into this dentist thread. You like the results of your dental procedure. That is not shocking given the likely alternatives. But you neither LIKED nor WANTED the procedure-- it was simply necessary to get the result you wanted.
I think war is similar. While there may be a small minority that differ, I suspect that the vast majority of people of all persuasions, including those in the military, neither LIKE nor WANT war. They may both like and want a perceived likely result of a present war or they both like and want the actual result that came from a past war. But nothing in that means that they like the means.
I like and want to be healthy but I do not like injections.
I really like and want to go skiing but that makes me neither like nor want the drive to the resort.
You did not seem to comprehend the difference in a person's feelings between a means to an end and the end itself. I found THAT funny.

Yes it hurt, and I don't like pain. That doesn't mean that I didn't want to have my wisdom teeth taken out. What is funny?
