In terms of health benefits, its only rational to state that if we improve soil quality, we will improve the nutriotional quality of food (better nourished plants will have more nutrients than badly nourished plants), but the problem it that most current organic farming does little if anything to improve actual soil conditions.

The extra nutrients cause an algae bloom which sucks up all the oxygen in the water killing all the fish.

Theoretically since organic farms don't use such fertilizers, preferring things like cow manure which is slightly less mobile then chemical sprays, there wouldn't be so much run off. Of course there is a decrease in field productivity with organic farms.
Save many/most of them don't use cow manure but prefer high nitrate chicken manure chock full of those very self same nitrates that cause the issues you describe and for added measure have a tendency to cause such niceties as samonella, dysentery, etc. in the water supplies.

But what would I know growing up on a farm and all.

I don't buy organic tomatoes because I think they are better for me - I buy them because non-organic tomatoes are as hard as onions and have absolutely no discernible flavour.

Well, the girl who did that looked a lot like the girl in the picture you lifted to cover the fact that you're really an FBI agent.

Taste really is the only reason to decide to pay extra for food.

I was refering to the none organicly grown veggies. The pesticide "problem" is easily eliminated by simply washing your food before you eat it. Yes, I'd recommend washing even the organic stuff before eating as well.

Nevertheless, the professional foodies wave away the science:

The government and its independent watchdog, the Food Standards Agency are equally adamant there is no proof organic food is better for our health. But science alone cannot prove the point, says Lord Peter Melchett, a director of the Soil Association, who believes consumers must trust their instincts.

"Science doesn't tell us the answers so some of it we have to go on feelings," he says

                        Feelings? Oh do phuck off.
Humans really worry me. The case of organic food was that its benefit was based on the environment. I don't know where this cobblers about nutritional value has come from.

They've also made the claim that organic food was better for you. Claiming the pesticide residue was so bad that you'd catch cancer if you didn't buy organic. It's a BS claim.

Me, the only think I subscribe to is the concept of local produce, and all the better if it is produced in a ethical manner. Luckily in Wales, that is most places - especially if you have the privilege to get to know the farmers and the stock themselves, so you actually get to know exactly where everything comes from...
I'd check that one as well - a lot of farmers have been buying stock that supermarkets reject, putting a bit of soil on it, and passing ot off as locally grown, etc..

A business doesn't need to be big to rip you off.

Organic meat is also less likely to be contaminated with feces or in the case of chicken, really nasty stuff. Generally speaking, however, organic food has a noticeably superior taste. Organic eggs and milk are so much better than the non-organic kinds, and have much longer shelf lives too for some reason.
